Fire Damages Long Island Home Based Business

When your work and your home are in the same space, a fire can be extraordinarily devastating because in one event you can lose your home and your livelihood.  Consider all at risk for your home business and make sure to have vital information backed up offsite so that you are not out of business permanently.  

This antiques and collectibles purveyor had a fire in the family home that caused extensive smoke and soot damage to collectibles being stored for sale in storage and suffered structural damage to the building.  It is wise to know how much of your business's inventory is covered under your insurance policy - and perhaps secure additional insurance if it falls short.  

In this instance, the thousands of collectibles largely were hard-surface so were cleanable surfaces - glass, porcelain etc. so we were able to catalog and restore - but some original boxes were lost to smoke damage which may cause a loss in value.

In short, be sure your home based business is adequately insured!
