Flooded Basement Water Extraction - Long Island, NY

This home had an unexpected water event that left several inches of standing water in an unfinished basement.  While unfinished, it is no less distressing because of course there are personal effects and furnishings that were affected.   Soaked boxes, books, furniture, appliances and more - all sitting in water.  One issue with this is that you can put your family in a highly dangerous situation when  you wade through standing water and the power is on.  Electricity and water do not mix, and you may not see that there are extension cords, plugs, or items in standing water that are still receiving current.  SERVPRO of Great Neck/Port Washington urges you to make sure the power is off to that area.  If your circuit breaker is in the basement, have the power shut off by an electrician with the proper gear or off at the street by the electric company.
